After completing high school in St. Petersburg, Dr. Ghavam graduated from Stanford University where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in a combined five-year program. He earned his MD with Research Distinction at the University of Miami School of Medicine and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, serving as Administrative Chief Resident in his final year. He completed his Fellowship in Spine Surgery at The OrthoCarolina Charlotte Spine Center.
Dr. Ghavam was in private practice in Huntsville, Alabama for twenty years. During that period, he co-founded a spine implant manufacturing company which continues to provide American engineered and manufactured spinal implants throughout the US and abroad. He holds a US patent for a cervical spine plate. During that time, he further extended his education with a Master’s degree at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, graduating in 2017.
Starting in 2018, Dr. Ghavam spent one year developing a spine program at a rural hospital in Silverton, Oregon, and another year helping rebuild a spine program at an underserved community near Seattle, WA, and at a critical access hospital in Enumclaw, Washington.
He continues to serve as a flight surgeon and orthopedic surgeon in the Air National Guard; he deployed in 2014 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In 2020, he coauthored and published a peer-reviewed manuscript on his original work confirming the safety of performing spine surgery on patients taking clopidogrel (a blood thinner).
He is privileged to continue to serve the communities of Palm Beach County. Dr. Ghavam provides hospital services at Delray Medical Center and West Boca Medical Center, and outpatient surgery at Central Palm Beach ASC and other local and regional ambulatory surgery centers.
